    Product Description

    SkyWatcher 114/900 EQ Reflector Telescope

See the giant planets such as Jupiter and Saturn and their moons, nebulae and clusters. The SkyWatcher 114/900 EQ Reflector Telescope is a fantastic telescope for the beginning amateur astronomer. Users of this telescope get a great experience of watching the night sky without needing to pay high up front costs associated with more expensive telescopes.

The SkyWatcher SW450 Reflector Telescope has a 114mm (4½") objective diameter that captures a nice amount of light for viewing the night sky. It also has a 900mm focal length with smooth 31.7mm rack and pinion focuser. A longer focal length allows for great views of many celestial objects particularly in dark sky environments.

This telescope also has the benefits of gathering 125% more light than a 76mm telescope and 165% more than a 70mm refractor.

All Sky-Watcher reflectors are overcoated with silicon dioxide for more durability and 5 years warranty.

*Please note, the image through all finder scopes will be upside down.

SkyWatcher 114/900 EQ Reflector Telescope SW455 Features:

  • Clear views with 114mm aperture
  • Easy object focusing with 6x24 finderscope
  • More light gathering capacity (165% more than 70mm refractor)
  • Aluminized and overcoated mirrors
  • Comfortable viewing at high and low magnifications
  • Easy tracking of stars with equatorial mount
  • 5 years Skywatcher limited warranty

    Highly recommend

My first telescope I bought and it’s fantastic. Was expecting blurry blobs in the sky but was pleasantly surprised! Gazing at Jupiter and the Galilean moons is my favourite thing to do with this (so far) although I suck at the technical side of things like polar alignment and correct use the equatorial mount, I pretty much use my sky guide app on my phone to estimate where i point my scope in the night sky. I leant proposer use one day when I’m not being so lazy. Anyway, I always recommend this telescope to ppl who ask about it on social media or my friends and family. LOVE IT! First Telescope
    Overall Score
Bought this as my first telescope and was pleasantly surprised due to its cheap price!
If youre reading this review for pros and cons of the telescope, here they are.
(Baring in mind i live in a relatively suburban area)
-Easily observe the moon and its features with variety of eyepieces included.
-Can see Saturn and its rings
-Can see Jupiter and its moons faintly
-Can see other planets such as mars and venus but not in precise detail
-Can see nebula such as the Great Orion Nebula very easily
-Lightweight, easy to construct and easy to operate
    - Well, there isnt any really.

If you are looking to invest in a telescope that will enable you to see distant planets, galaxies etc or are looking for a telescope that will allow you to see deeper space this is inadequate. HOWEVER, as a beginners telescope or a telescope children would like to use i would highly recommend this one. It is sturdy and requires little maintenance and for the price, you cant expect much more.
Yes i would recommend this as a beginners telescope, especially if you are unsure on whether or not you are to continue star gazing in the future as this telescope is relatively cheap!

Great first serious telescope.... may become addictive.

Bought this as my first telescope. Putting it all together was handled well by the included manual. The first night or two were spent getting used to setting up, polar alignment and directional control (in reverse) of the EQ mount. I was expecting a slightly magnified view of the sky from this entry priced telescope (rrp $399 AUD. On sale for $199 AUD). However my first look at the moon (where else for a first look?) And the clarity and detail, even with the supplied eye pieces and 2x Barlow, was and is, amazing. Can't wait to get a moon filter to further improve contrast and reduce glare down less than retina imaging levels. Next was Jupiter and it's 4 main moons then Mars and best of all was last night with my first sighting of Saturn. Of course I'd seen much bigger images of these planets on tv etc but the thrill of seeing them 'live' with my own eyes was truly exciting. Now I get why astronomers do what they do. Of course all my sightings have been without the aid of filters or wizbang optics and so not their best due to brightness etc so a decent set of these is on my wish list. Have ordered a solar filter, also from Ozscopes so I can put my Skywatcher to use during daylight by safely observing the sun. Have found Ozscopes to be prompt with delivery being within the stated time frame (even using Aust post) & the products sold to be of generally good quality. The only disappointment I have, albeit a small one, is that the gradient marking on the Dec Scale are apparently a transfer of some sort which, to my frustration, rubbed off when I tried to wipe away an oil mark so that the said Dec scale now has a blank spot between one of the 50 to 10 degree sections making using that scale impossible. If transfers MUST be used? then perhaps a spare could be included? Or better yet, do a better job to start with! The tripod is a substantial aluminum construction. Even so the amount of image shake could do with being reduced perhaps by the inclusion of a stabilisation weaight to hang from the underside as this is a necessity not an optional luxury.
Overall I'm delighted with the instrument and its supplied optics. It far exceeded my expectations for the sale price. I'm now well and truly hooked on stargazing (thanks Ozscopes) & look forward to future dealings with the said supplier of my new addiction. The sky is not the limit...

Prompt delivery. Lots of pieces but easy to set up. Bought two weeks before Christmas and arrived in estimated time. Very happy! Review by Shannon (Posted on 6/10/2017)
    Good first telescope.

The best thing was the shipping. I bought this during the busiest time of the year, Christmas, and the delivery was still spot on.
The telescope looks very nice and isn't too hard to use. However, at first I didnt understand other comments about needing a bigger telescope, but the eyepieces didn't allow you to see so far. Still, will definitely buy more from ozscopes again.

Very happy with this skywatcher scope
    Overall Score
I bought this scope as my first telescope after taking advise from ozscope staff. Took me awhile to set up, might take a bit more practice. I almost had no troubles using it to observe Orion Nebula on first night, even though it took me some time do it.

I will recommend it to first time user like me. However, it does encourage you to buy a bigger and better scope to get a really crisp images of Nebulae.
