A great instrument to learn with before commiting a wad of money. - Review by Kevin Wallis
Overall Score
The instrument assembly is easy and after is not cumbersome to relocate via car to good vantage places.

Overall a good investment for the price. The price from Ozhut was the best available at the time we purchased. (Posted on 16/12/11)

I was surprised at how much you can see with this telescope! I'm an absolute beginner and I find this telescope friendly and easy to use.

The moon look amazing! I could see the craters too. This is definitely a good telescope to start with! Kids (or big kid like me) would love it! (Posted on 12/12/11)

Simple telescope, produces good images, easy to focus and value for money! - Review by Michelle
Overall Score
For someone very challenged with nuts and bolts I found this telescope very easy to set up. the knobs and mount are plastic so be gentle when putting it together. but when the mount was put together and telescope mounted it was very stable (i wouldn't leave it in the outdoors though!)

This telescope focuses very well and easily. I've been able to test it on terrestrial observations and get bright views. Now, I just have to wait for the skies to clear up

On the whole, a simple telescope that produce good images, easy to focus and great value for money!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
My 5 year old wants a telescope for his 6th birthday. I am contemplating between the Celestron Power Seeker 60AZ Refractor Telescope for $135 or the Saxon 607 AZ Refractor Telescope for $129. Which one is better? He just wants to look at the stars.
A:
Both telescopes are very identical in terms of their specifications and build, so they will deliver the same results in terms of what you'll be able to see with them and the quality of the images. At a 60mm aperture (in both telescopes), you'll be able to see the moon and the planets well.
The 60mm aperture is excellent for beginners, especially children, to get started with astronomy. Both telescopes come with several eyepieces to give you versatility in the magnification, and both have sturdy tripods. However you might prefer the longer warranty on the Saxon telescope, as compared to Celestron's 2 year warranty.
