Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
My 18 month grandson accidentally knocked over my scope and now you cannot see through it. I know it won't be under warranty but I would like to know where to send it for repairs if possible.
A:
Please contact Sheldon and Hammond at 02 9482 6666. They are the Barska distributors and also the service center for Australia. They should be able to help you out with repairing the Spotting Scope.
Q:
Can you please tell me what a 20x60x60 means? Would it be any good inside a hall for air rifles at 10 mtrs?
A:
The first number on any scope description represents the magnification of the scope, and the second number represents the size of the objective lens (or aperture) of the scope. The Barska that you are enquiring about has a variable zoom / magnification of between 20 to 60 times. The objective lens of this scope is 60 mm.

Considering that you are planning to use your scope indoors, the magnification of this Barska scope may be too high. For indoor use, we would recommend a scope with a magnification of between 16 to 45 x. Note also that the higher the magnification of a scope, the smaller the field of view. For the objective lens, the bigger the size, the clearer the image viewed, but also the bigger and heavier the size of the scope. With that, depending on how you will be using your scope, you may also want to use a tripod to support it when using it over a long period of time.

You may also want to consider whether a straight or angled spotting scope would be better for your purposes. Ultimately, whether you go for a straight or angled spotting scope is up to personal preference, and perhaps what you would like to use the scope for. For example, if you wanted to mount your spotting scope to the glass window of a car for birdwatching (with a car window mount), you might be best to go with a straight design. That said, if you were fairly tall and wanted to use the scope to look out into the bay, an angled spotting scope might be more your thing.

For more information on spotting scopes, we have a guide on our site (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/Spotting-Scopes-Review-A-Buyers-Guide.html) that may help you better decide which scope would be the most suitable for your purposes.
