Great first scope. - Review by

Perfect telescope for the beginner and the price is reasonable.

Have had a few nights that where clear skies and enjoyed looking at the moon.
Looking forward to many more nights looking up.

Yes you could pay more and get better but for someone just starting out it does what's it meant to and a good piece of equipment to start out with.

I'm happy - Review by

After going to a local observatory I became inquisitive and decided to buy myself a telescope, not wanting to spend a lot of money I surfed the net for a site from which to make my purchase, thats when I found Oz Scopes. Then it was a matter of which one,I compared prices and specs and decided on a Celestron 114mm EQ..
Once it was received I set about setting it up ,which I found to very easy,I have only been able to use it a couple of times due to too much cloud and light. But what I have been able to see amazes me.. I couldn't be happier with my purchase .

A Great First Scope - Review by
Overall Score
100
The instrument arrived in very good time and in excellent condition. Setting up was easy with the clear step-by-step instructions illustrated with good quality photographs.

First light was about 30 minutes later after I had roughly aligned the mount. We observed Sol by projection onto a clipboard. Three sunspots on the limb (not sure which!) greeted us. Terrestrial viewing was clear and crisp.

Suburban Geelong has positively stinking seeing but the moon was absolutely awesome! I won't relate other observations until I've tried it on our dark sky rural block.

FAQ

Q:
My question is: Is it hard to look through the telescope (because of eyepiece's location and I wear glasses). Will this be good for beginners? If so what can I see through it clearly with this telescope. What Is the size of the eyepiece?
A:
I have a similar scope at home myself (Astromaster 130) the scope's optical tube can be rotated in the tube rings so that the eyepiece is in a comfortable position for viewing. It is generally recommended that you look into the eyepieces without glasses, and focus the image to your liking with the focusing tube. This will be easier than focusing with glasses on. What you can see with the scope depends on a number of factors, such as; the condition of the sky, the amount of light pollution reflecting off particles between your scope and the object being observed, the stellar magnitude (distance away from the celestial object), and what objects are visible from your location in the southern hemisphere at any point in time. The 20 and 10mm eyepieces give you 50x and 100x more magnification than what you can see with your naked eye.
Q:
What is the warranty on the celestron telescopes?
A:
All Celestron telescopes come with a 2-year warranty. They are sent back to Sydney, NSW for any warranty procedures. Just FYI, Saxon has 3 years warranty and Skywatcher 3 years as well.
Q:
Hi there, I bought the Celestron Astromatser 114 and have been able to sight the moon, would love to see it closer. Can you recommend any accessories that will help me do that?
A:
Higher magnification eyepieces will give you a closer look at the moon! For this particular scope, a 6mm eyepiece would be best. Alternatively, you can look at getting a barlow lens and using it in conjunction with your existing eyepieces, to either double or triple the magnification.
