The Nikon Action range has the same optical quality as the Nikon Action EX in terms of them both having multilayer-coated lenses, and they're both also rubber-armoured to resist shock. In terms of the major differences, the Nikon Action is not specifically waterproof or fogproof, but the Nikon Action EX is waterproof (up to 1m/3.3 ft. for 5 minutes) and fogproof. The Nikon Action also has aspherical eyepiece lenses which eliminate image distortion, whereas for the Nikon Action EX, the aspherical lenses are only in the 7x50 and 12x50. The Action EX range is also designed to be more suitable for eyeglass wearers due to its higher eye-point.
