Skywatcher Black Diamond 8" Collapsible Dobsonian Telescope features:
|Recommended Usage||Viewing Galaxies/Stars, Viewing Nebulae, Viewing the Moon, Viewing the Planets|
|User Level||For Beginners|
The 1st night I took it out, I struggled to find anything, then I realised I had the 2" adapter and the 1" adapter both on the scope! Eventually found some stars.
The 2nd time I took it out, this time during the day, I observed the moon, in incredible detail.
The 3rd time I took it out, last night, I had done some research. I looked at Mars, the Moon again, Jupiter and Saturn.
The detail on the moon at moon at night was great. We then had to lift and carry it around the back of the house as Jupiter appeared between 2 trees. It was pretty specatular seeing the moons. We then moved back to the front of the house and Saturn had emerged from behind a tree. The 1st time getting Saturn in focus will never leave me, its truly amazing to see the ring.
I would definately recommend this scope to anyone who is interested in buying it. Yes its heavy, but the build quality and optics quality are great.

Pros: price, great first telescope
I live just north of the city, so light pollution is pretty bad, but I could still see enough to be impressed. The four Galilean moons around Jupiter are clearly visible, as is banding on the planet itself. Saturn, Venus and the Orion Nebula were also pretty spectacular.
If you're a first time telescope owner, like me, then you may be a little surprised at how awkward it is to move this telescope around. I chose the 8" collapsible (rather than a 10") because I was a bit worried about portability - which is just as well as even the 8" is a bit of a chore to move.
Also, although the instructions describe how to collimate your telescope, using a simple eyepiece with a hole in it, the eyepiece for this is not included. It's a pretty minor thing, but it would've been nice to have this included (and not expensive given it would just be a plastic cylinder with a hole in it.)
Overall though, I'm thoroughly impressed and I can't wait to use this bad boy away from the city lights.
