FanMars, tansic first scope - Review by
    Overall Score

I recently purchased this 8" Dobsonian, only took 2 days to arrive. It came well packed up, in 2 boxes. The base went together without a drama after a quick browse through the instructions, and the tube was already assembled.

The 1st night I took it out, I struggled to find anything, then I realised I had the 2" adapter and the 1" adapter both on the scope! Eventually found some stars.
The 2nd time I took it out, this time during the day, I observed the moon, in incredible detail.
The 3rd time I took it out, last night, I had done some research. I looked at Mars, the Moon again, Jupiter and Saturn.

The detail on the moon at moon at night was great. We then had to lift and carry it around the back of the house as Jupiter appeared between 2 trees. It was pretty specatular seeing the moons. We then moved back to the front of the house and Saturn had emerged from behind a tree. The 1st time getting Saturn in focus will never leave me, its truly amazing to see the ring.

I would definately recommend this scope to anyone who is interested in buying it. Yes its heavy, but the build quality and optics quality are great.

Really great telescope - Review by
    Overall Score

Delivery was very prompt: I live in Perth and it arrived 2 business days after I ordered it - which was fantastic. The quality of the parts and the instructions were good and it took me about an hour before I was outside trying to align the finder scope.

I live just north of the city, so light pollution is pretty bad, but I could still see enough to be impressed. The four Galilean moons around Jupiter are clearly visible, as is banding on the planet itself. Saturn, Venus and the Orion Nebula were also pretty spectacular.

If you're a first time telescope owner, like me, then you may be a little surprised at how awkward it is to move this telescope around. I chose the 8" collapsible (rather than a 10") because I was a bit worried about portability - which is just as well as even the 8" is a bit of a chore to move.

Also, although the instructions describe how to collimate your telescope, using a simple eyepiece with a hole in it, the eyepiece for this is not included. It's a pretty minor thing, but it would've been nice to have this included (and not expensive given it would just be a plastic cylinder with a hole in it.)

Overall though, I'm thoroughly impressed and I can't wait to use this bad boy away from the city lights.

    Incredible telescope - Review by

This is a great telescope, the delivery time was great, arrived in just 1 day. It was relatively easy to set up and came already collimated. The collapsible design is awesome and made it much easier to carry compared to my last telescope, even though this one is bigger. You can carry it just with the handles and the tension control is also very handy. The stand is very sturdy and the movements are very smooth, its incredibly easy to just make the slightest adjustments, and I really like the dobsonian mount. The first object I looked at was orion nebula, first with the 25mm eyepiece, then with the 10mm one. The clarity was outstanding in both, you could really see details especially in the 10mm eyepiece, and this was on a night with the full moon out, which really does affect viewing a bit, but in spite of that fact I still got great views. I then looked at m46 for some time and then the moon. I have neve seen the moon in such detail, and I thought my last telescope (Saxon 15012EQ3) brought out great detail in the moon. I then ended with Jupiter. It was absolutely incredible. I could see the bands in amazing clarity and could also make out the storm as well as some of the other finer details. Overall this is an amazing telescope
