Good Telescope - Review by Matthew Marshall
Good Telescope that is fairly simple to set up for beginners. Software is not easily compatible with MAC O/S. Have to download and purchase various software to operate. (Posted on 9/01/12)
Pros: price
Cons: Little bulky to wear
Great telescope, easy to use - Review by Eyvonne A
Great first telescope, very detailed instructions. Allignment so easy with laser sight, quick setup & easy to use.
Only drawback has been the weather, it's been either raining or cloudy since I got it - so I haven't been able to play!
Extremely fast delivery and great service. Ordered another item from another ebay seller a few days before this telescope - telescope arrived 1 week earlier!
Thanks! (Posted on 25/11/11)

First telescope... - Review by Donovan S
I chose this for my first scope, and so far have found it excellent for Jupiter, Saturn, the moon, star clusters and a handful of the brighter galaxies and nebulae. Aligning, finding and tracking objects is all very quick and straight-forward.
Keep in mind though that for the smaller size of the scope, some of the deep-sky objects in the database will simply be too dim to see without a very dark location. But for a first telescope that's easy to grab, set up and go take a look at the sky, highly recommended. :)
I was also very happy with the prompt, reliable dispatch and delivery. (Posted on 21/07/10)

Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
First time telescope purchaser, considering Nexstar 4 SE or similar unit with GPS goto detail the set up of telescope with and without optional GPS facility, how much is optional GPS. Can an external hand held GPS be used to locate position and time then entered manually into keypad? What is the purpose of filters and different eyepieces? Is a reflecting telescope tube a sealed unit with respect to condensation?
A:
Unfortunately, the optional GPS accessory is not something that is available in Australia due to the cost of the product. What most users do is obtain the location via a standard GPS unit and manually input the coordinates into the device.
The different Eyepieces will give the Telescope a different magnifications based on the size and the filters are used to filter out certain colours to be able to see more detail. Even though it is a sealed unit, the corrector plate (lens at the front) does fog up if the air around the telescope is much cooler than the air inside the tube. It normally takes about an hour for the air temperature to level and for the dew to evaporate.

Q:
We think we want a Celestron NexStar 4 SE Computerized Cassegrain Telescope. We would like something which is easy to use for the whole family and for photography with a Canon EOS 60D. Can you please advise us if this is the right telescope for us and what accessories we need to go with it to make it work?
A:
Cassegrain telescopes are generally the best for Astrophotography. The 4 SE is definitely a good choice and is part of our Christmas sale at a special price as well. What you'll need for to attach your Camera to the telescope is a T-Adapter (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/celestron-t-adapter-nexstar-4-c90-mak-and-c130-mak.html) and a T-Ring for your Canon 60D (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/celestron-t-ring-for-35-mm-canon-eos-camera.html).
Q:
Just wondering:
1/ are any components of this telescope covered under warranty, and if so how long are they?
2/ does this telescope only come standard with the one eyepiece (25mm)?
3/ how much is a protective case for this telescope?

A:
The telescope and its parts are covered by Celestron's 2-year warranty. We get our stock from the Australian Celestron distributor so any warranty procedures will be directed back to them - they're based in NSW.
The 4SE comes with just the one 25mm eyepiece.
Celestron doesn't make any protective cases for their telescopes. They make only one for the 8SE (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/hard-waterproof-case-for-for-cge-mount-pier-and-nexstar-8se-and-8i.html) which has foam that you can cut yourself to fit the 4SE (it'll be big enough to fit the 4SE - just the tube and mount, not the tripod legs) but it comes at a very expensive price and takes a long time to get shipped.
You can get a cheaper case for about US$200 from US sites such as Jim's Mobile (http://www.jimsmobile.com/buy_cases.htm - look for CASEGEN19) . They have the best option, I think. Other sites you can check out are http://www.pelican.com/ or http://www.skbcases.com/

Q:
Can I be able to save images and store them in my my laptop or PC?
A:
The Nexstar 4 SE is capable to supporting a Camera to capture and save images. Unfortunately, the telescope on its own does not have the capability to take pictures. The easiest option to capture images with a Telescope is by purchase the Celestron Neximage which is a direct fit onto the Nexstar 4 SE (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/celestron-neximage-solar-system-imaging-kit.html).
