Frequently Asked Questions
Q:
What is the warranty and is it fully functional without any extras having to be purchased?
A:
The Celestron Nexstar 8 SE comes with a 2 year warranty. The telescope does work straight out the box with no additional accessories, the only think extra you would need is 8 Batteries to power the motor. However, we do recommend purchasing Eyepieces to go with the Telescope (http://www.ozscopes.com.au/accessories/eyepieces) to give you a good range of magnifications when looking at various items in the night sky.
Q:
Does the nexstar series list southern objects as well? Because I've seen one advertised that says "U.S. Version"
A:
The Nexstar series will be configured for the southern hemisphere if they go through the Australian distributor, who gets them properly configured for Australia. If you buy the telescope overseas they are usually only configured for the US / the northern hemisphere. We have had people who bought them overseas and experienced problems with their telescope in Australia, so it's best that you purchase one that's made for Australia.
Q:
Is the Nexstar 8 SE ComputerizedCassegrain the same telescope as the Nexstar 8 SE 8.0'' 203MM Catadioptric telescope. Which is the better one if they are different?
A:
Yes they are the same telescope, just named differently.
If you are looking to getting an 8" telescope, I would recommend the CPC 8" instead as they are a better scope (GPS enabled, dual fork mount for better stability) and at a cheaper price:

Q:
Hi I am sourcing a Telescope that can be operated by a Apple Macbook, do you know of any software that can be used to control the Nexstar 8SE. Can it use the iphone as a GPS device.
Andrew
Andrew
A:
Controlling the telescope from your macbook or PC for that matter would not be possible but is also unnecessary. You can control the movement of the telescope by using the hand held controller. As for GPS functionality, you can use the iphone to attain the information you need such as longitude, latitude and exact time, which is what you need to align the telescope. Something you might consider however, is mounting a camera onto the telescope which is controlled with a macbook and therefore producing live shots of images etc.
Q:
I have a Celestron NexStar 4 SE. I would like at some stage to upgrade to an 8 inch scope. Is it possible to mount a NexStar 8 SE OTA on the 4 SE (CG-5) mount and tripod?
A:
You can't actually mount the 8SE tube onto the 4SE Mount because the weight of the 8inch tube is too heavy for the mount and the length is longer than the allowed space (which means it can't turn the full circle). For this reason Celestron doesn't normally sell the Nexstar SE's in OTAs.
