Very nice telescope... - Review by Stu
Overall Score
Great first telescope to buy, It's alignment process is a little frustrating at first, but becomes easier with time. Good telescope.
But you will need to buy more eye-pieces in order to see more. It's limited in the way of only having a 25mm eye-piece supplied. (Posted on 5/09/10)

Pros: portability, light weight, Good price, great first telescope

Service from Ozscope is first class. Received the telescope within 2 business days. Haven't worked out how to use it as yet. (either no time or cloudy skies).
We wanted a powerful, portable (as practical) and relatively light telescope. This fitted our criteria and the price was excellent. Looking forward to using it. Hopefully I will be able to rate it as 5 stars. (Posted on 19/07/10)

Pros: easy to carry, portability, light weight, Good price, great first telescope

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:
Can the Celestron Nexstar 5 SE Computerized Cassegrain Telescope be plugged into a laptop and controlled using an astronomy program? If not, can you recommend a scope which is good for astrophotography?
A:
You most certainly can control the Celestron Nexstar 5 SE from a laptop! The scope itself comes with an RS-232 cable as well as the Celestron NexRemote software which will allow you to do this.

I will let you know, that with this setup you won't actually be able to display what the telescope can see on the computer screen. You would need a camera to connect to the telescope eyepiece such as the Celestron NexImage Solar System Imaging Kit which can be found on our website here:
http://www.ozscopes.com.au/celestron-neximage-solar-system-imaging-kit.html

The 5 SE is perfect for astrophotography! Cassegrain telescopes produce the best image and will allow you take take better quality photos.
Q:
Is it possible to add a digital SLR camera on the Celestron NexStar SE range? If so, what is required and what extra costs will it involve?
A:
It is absolutely possible to attach a SLR camera to the Nexstar SE range of telescopes. You need two items to do so:

A T-Adapter which fits into the eyepiece socket on the telescope and
A T-Ring to attach the camera to the T-Adapter

The T-Adapter is either Universal or Telescope specific. The T-Ring is specific to the Camera brand.

T-Adapters are $50-$60. T-Rings are $25 and you can find them all on our website here:
http://www.ozscopes.com.au/accessories/astrophotography
Q:
I am looking to buy the 4se. Is the 5se much better for a few dollars more?
A:
The main difference between the two telescopes is the aperture, the 5 SE has 5" aperture compared to the 4 SE's 4".
This will allow you to see more in the sky, and also have a clearer, brighter image.
